La máquina del tiempo

Resumen 

Este es un texto divulgativo que pretende difundir las peculiaridades de la fauna subterránea, sus caracteres –el fenotipo troglobionte–, su modo de vida y sus distribuciones; también se detallan las características de los ecosistemas subterráneos. Se incide en algunos métodos de estudio que permiten inferir las relaciones evolutivas entre las distintas especies –filogenias–: el método cladístico y el molecular. El texto se completa con ejemplos de distribuciones relictuales –de organismos sin parientes epigeos en su área de distribución– con origen en territorios existentes en estructuras continentales de antiguos periodos geológicos. 

Abstract 

This is an informative text that aims to disseminate the peculiarities of subterranean fauna, its characters -the troglobiont phenotype-, its way of life and its distribution; the characteristics of the subterranean ecosystems are also detailed. It focuses on some study methods that allow inferences of evolutionary relationships between the different species –phylogenies–: the cladistic and molecular methods. The text is completed with examples of relict distributions –of organisms without epigeal relatives in their area of distribution– originating in territories in continental structures of ancient geological periods.
